The iconic Air Max 97 OG dubbed “Silver Bullet” is more than just a trend, it blends retro and modern to create an all-time classic silhouette. The shoe is finally making its return this November in honour of its 25th anniversary, only previously released back in 2017, for the 20th anniversary.
Designed by Christian Tresser, the shoe first hit the shelves in 1997. The inspiration behind the design was through rippling liquids, like a drop hitting the surface of the ocean and Japanese bullet trains. The colourway inspiration behind the shoe came from Tresser’s love for Mountain Biking. During the time of release, many pieces of equipment and accessories for the sport were clad in the same silver metallic, which he knew would match well with these shoes.
The re-design arrives in the OG colourway and design cues, starting with the metallic silver which commands the full upper, from the mesh inserts to the leather panelling. Reflective strips are also located on the sides to brighten up the design. Hits of “Varsity red” accents take over the Swoosh logos found on the lateral and medial side of the shoe, the heel tabs, and the branding on the tongue. Subtle touches of black feature in the oval tongue badges and interior lining, while a contrasting white midsole sits atop a black, white, and red outsole.
Nike Air Max 97 OG “Silver Bullet” releases online only, Friday 11th November, at 10am.
