Jordan Brand’s recent revival has been a massive hit this year with new colourways arriving monthly. This hasparticularlybeen the case for the Air Jordan 1 with the return of some of the greatest OG colour schemes as well as the debuts of some exciting new looks for the legendary silhouette.
The Air Jordan 1 is back this holiday season in a colourway that pays tribute to Michael Jordan’s first Sports Illustrated cover appearance during his rookie season with the Chicago Bulls. The issue featured a picture of him, tongue out, gliding past Milwaukee Bucks defenders Mike Dunleavy and Sidney Moncrief for an easy layup during his first round of the NBAPlayoffs. The words “A Star is Born” in Bucks colours weredisplayed across the cover and is the phrasethatinspired this Air Jordan 1 Sports Illustrated. This was MJ’s first magazine cover appearance as a professional - Prior to this, Jordan was also placed on the cover of Sports Illustrated on two other occassions but was wearing his North Carolina and Team USA jersey.
The vibrant green-coloured striped pattern said to represent the Jersey of the Milwaukee Bucks is transferred onto the swoosh for its most notable feature. The upper is a clean combo of tumbled white and black leather that’s offset by red detailing on the Wings logo, tongue and outline of the swoosh to represent the Bulls. The tongue tags come in black, white and red to make them stand out. To finish off the look, “A Star Is Born” is embossed on the inside of the detached collar flaps along with the date of theSports’s Illustrated issue Dec. 10, 1984.
The Good Life will release the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Sports Illustrated” in-store on a first come, first served basis at 11:00AMGST on Saturday December 27th
