Following on from last year’s RedBull Kicks Art footwear design competition, The Good Life hosted ASICS x RedBull’s reveal of the winning design on Wednesday October 17th. The competition was the first of its kind in the UAE and was aimed at unearthing and supporting creative designers within the region.
Applicants registered online and submitted their unique creations digitally. Over 500 creatives applied, and nine up-and-coming designers were selected and invited to The Good Life to finalise their designs. These were then exhibited at SoleDXB 2017 for public voting.
With the highest number of votes, 27-year-old Ahd Hany won over the judges and the public votes with her design, entitled ‘Griffonage’, which means careless handwriting. According to Ahd the design is meant to “showcase a fictitious language and an accumulation of abstract words that have no definite meaning but can be interpreted based on your own perception”.
A select group of media and influencers arrived at The Good Life to discover a sought-after selection of ASICS Tiger’s recent releases, such as the Gel-Lyte III “24 Kilates Express”, the Gel-SAGA x Footpatrol as well as a sneak peek look at the upcoming 2019 release of the Gel Kayano 5.
The ‘Griffonage’ reveal was followed with a Q&A with Ahd, while guests sipped on Redbull’s limited edition ‘Coconut Berry Summer’ energy drink. The event was capped off by several captivating poetic and musical performances by Dubai’s very own spoken word community ‘Blank Space’.
“I am so thrilled and grateful for the entire Redbull Kicks Art experience! When I first entered the competition, I never thought I’d get this far and even less to have my shoes sold at The Good Life. It is such an incredible feeling to have everyone’s support and I loved hearing each person’s interpretation of my design!” – Ahd Hany
The ASICS Tiger Gel-LYTE III ‘Griffonage’ is exclusively available in limited quantities at The Good Life. All proceeds from the sales go to the artist Ahd Hany. Grab a pair of these unique sneakers and help us support Dubai’s artistic community.
